Advertising and Teaching Adults

I love teaching seniors – half of my students are age 50 and above with the eldest being 82. Just as with children, adults vary tremendously in the rate and progress at which they proceed through the simply music curricula. I have successfully taught groups of two and three. My first adults were contacts from the church I attend, but my big influx of students was when I took a chance and paid for a large (half-page) ad in our local newspaper. As a bonus for purchasing the half page ad, I also received the corresponding half page with an advertorial. This was an article written by me about simply music, but it looked like a news article. My $2000 investment has paid for itself over and over ….and over again. You can take a look at my ad on the simply music website under Marketing Ideas from our Teachers.
I have also advertised in a local active seniors housing development paper. Actually, when I called to set up the ad, the sales person was so interested that she signed up and brought a friend with her. I find that newly retired boomers are extremely interested in learning new skills and playing the piano has been a dream for many. Don’t forget the power of talking about simply music wherever you go – I have had two enrollees from the local gym I attend.
