Webinar Series: 07/18/2018 – Piano – Music & the New Case for Creativity

The Introductory Session has always been a successful marketing tool for Simply Music teachers. However, we live in a different world now than when the FIS was first created. We now have the opportunity to share how learning with the Simply Music method can equip students with ‘critical neurological nutrition’ to help them thrive in an unpredictable and ever-changing world. Every Simply Music teacher can benefit by incorporating this dialogue into their lives. Background of FIS Format (00:05) Why a…

Testimonial video: to use or not to use?

I'm still going through my TTMs so I can start doing FIS's but I'm running into an issue I'm not quite sure how to solve: The FIS requires playing the testimonial video, but our TV is in the living room and I'm going to be teaching in a separate room. I'd like to not have to use our main living space because my husband is usually doing stuff on his computer when he gets home (when I'd…

Discussing tuition at initial phone call

I am just going to start to get the word out about teaching Simply Music, and then I will have an introductory session. My question is, what if people call and want to know how much it costs? Do you tell them the cost, or tell them to come to the first session and find out more about the program? Different SM teachers have different takes on this question. I do…

Bringing potential students to FIS

I'm having an FIS tomorrow with a few parents and they asked if they should bring their potential students with them. I said yes, but I'm wondering what you all do. I thought it would be good for the kids to hear, but maybe it won't interest them since a lot of the info is for the parents. Two of the students are 7. Suggestions? I usually demonstrate a few SM…

Value of group vs private lessons

I am starting to get a few inquiries for piano lessons, but I have a hard time expressing the value found in group lessons versus private ones. I know what they are, but I get flustered when that call comes in and I lose my confidence in expressing how awesome group lessons are. I'd appreciate any input you'd be willing to share! Experience them and the more you do, the more…

Questions about how to run an FIS

FIS questions: I still haven't had my first one, but I'm working on preparing for it. I'm more nervous about trying to effectively explain the Simply Music program than I am to actually teach with it. I'm wondering if most of you do them for large groups, or if you do them one on one? I teach in my home and I'm trying to decide whether to get all the families I currently teach together for a…

Trial Lesson

I have a parent inquiring about lessons and asking to do one trial lesson. I think having her do the 4-song workshop or a 3-month trial is a better idea. What do you think? I would say "Yes" and just do a free introductory session for her and the child - that is your "trial lesson", and I always feel like people get more out of this than they bargain for…

Reference to number of unused pianos – Neil Moore

One of our educators in the UK had a question that he posted in the Intranet Forum: "I'm starting up a Simply Music studio in the UK and am about to do my first introductory Session next week. There is a reference to a study made about 11 million unused pianos in homes. Is there a link to that particular study or others like it?" Here's my response: https://www.facebook.com/ThePianoCoach/videos/10156618685561959/

Student who only wants to read

I got an inquiry from a 25-year-old lady who made it clear she just wants to learn to read music. On the phone when I described all I've gained from SM, her attitude seemed to be "I don't need all that--I just want to play from my church's hymn book". I encouraged her to come over for an intro session, so she can really experience how Simply Music works. If she does, are there any helpful…
