Development Levels Required

Is it intended that we WILL DO the Development levels or are they just a source choice of reading material when the Foundation levels are finished? If students begin to source a variety of their own reading material and we are helping them with that, is there a reason we SHOULD be doing the Development levels as well? I’m not opposed to doing them, just wondering what the correct protocol and reasoning is.

The Development Levels are simply the next step in the Simply Music curriculum. They’re aimed at giving students the tools to coordinate and integrate their increasing ability to source instructions from the page with their playing-based understanding of the instrument.
There’s a whole lot more to learn after Foundation 9. Don’t let the change in level names throw you off – it’s still all part of Neil’s vision.

I know every studio and every student is different, but I found the foundation books to be rather challenging for my students. I prefer to do some easier reading projects with my students after F9.

I agree that there is lots more learning to be had from the Development program. Of course, that doesn’t mean the student has to prioritise these pieces over their own choices. I always try to have at least one Development and one personal project going at any one time.
