Let’s share ideas…what are some fun duet ideas you have used with your students?
Ruth P., North Carolina
Last week I had one student play a nice chord progression (like Canon in C chords) and the other student improvised. Not as smooth as when I play with them, but good for them to experience it as a duo with each other.
Terah W., Kansas
We like to get as many different blues going on our two pianos at once as we can (of course, a group thing). But we have had 7 going and it was fun! Also, I will sit down and improv with a student playing Honey Dew and not the usual stuff. I try and play something different every time to show rather than tell. The Aussie Waterfall Song is also great and has lots of room for improv as well!

Tear for a Friend played as usual + Fluff Pie one hand only starting on high C (lay out during the B section of Tear). These are both Level 3 songs.
Honey Dew + Ode RH, Honey Dew + Dreams RH
Alma Mater Blues on one piano and The Gaz on another. Slight adjustment on Gaz – first line will need to be I – IV – I – I.
Anne Smith, Nebraska
Australian Waterfall.
One person playing any blues song with another playing the blues scale above them.
Any of the arrangements that are accompaniments (i.e. Lightning Storm) with the original melody played above it.
Susan M., Canada
Night Storm + Deep River RH
