Student Images on Social Media

When I enroll students, I ask them to fill out a photo/video release form that provides permission to share images of students playing piano and only first names. However, the majority of my students choose “No” to using them on websites or social media. Do you give families the choice to opt out? I notice some performing art schools just include a clause stating that photos/videos will be taken and could be used and that is part of the enrollment agreement. I could really use some student video to share on FB and webpage and I don’t know how to work it in.

I don’t give them an opt out. I just ask them to sign it. And if they have any issues they usually let me know and in that case I send them a non consent form to sign.

What about just video the child’s hands playing the piano and asking if that’s an option. Or flattery I always find helps. “jason is playing this piece so well, would I be allowed to share a short video of him as i’m so proud” etc..
