Whether or not to have a studio Facebook page

I just had my annual piano party yesterday and I was thinking it would be nice to invite parents to post photos and videos of their kids. Do any of you have both personal and business Facebook pages? Or, for that matter, only a business page? I only have a personal page and I’m wondering how to proceed.

I have a business page and a personal page, and I don’t accept friend requests on my personal page from clients. I like to keep it separate and it feels more professional that way.

It’s actually not possible to have a business page without a personal; Facebook made that a rule for identity verification purposes. I let students send me stuff and then I choose what to post, as some moms are sensitive about their kids’ photos being posted online.

I post a photo of students with each Foundation certificate and a little congratulations. I only use first names and don’t tag the parents. I also ask parents to sign a media release that I can use their child’s photo. I make it clear that it isn’t required that they say yes.

I set up a private Facebook group for my studio. The public can’t see it, but all my families who choose to join can share photos, videos, and posts.

One tip I would give is to keep any videos you post short. People are more likely to view them if they are under five minutes long.

I have both. But I’m thinking a private group might be the way to go in that scenario – if it’s just for your students. And then if you want to put something on your Facebook business page, have students sign releases.
