Variations – Fluff Pie and The Pipes
Found in: Arrangements & Variations

Here are a couple of variations that are technically a bit challenging but might be fun for students who are really up to it.
Variation on The Pipes from Level 3
Play a grace note (1/2 step below the main tone) before every RH note that falls with the LH (every time you say “yes.”) This requires a bit of refingering.
Variation on Fluff Pie from Level 3
In the last section of variations suggested by Neil, your LH started on the E just above middle C and your RH on the C above middle C. Move the LH down to start the pattern on middle C. With the RH staying in place, play staccato chords on the beat as follows:
C-E-G 4x
B-F-G 4x
D-F-G 4x
C-E-G 4x
Then repeat the four-chord sequence once more as you finish playing the melody in the LH.
Now, with hands in the same octaves, quickly switch and play the melody on C in the RH and chords in the LH, but STOP before playing the very last measure. Pick up both hands and move the bottom finger to the next highest G. BH play the five steps up and down (G, A, B, C, D, C, B, G). Move BH down one octave and repeat the five step pattern. Move BH down one octave and repeat again.
Now RH finger 4 should be on middle C. Play and hold that C while the LH plays (moving down) C, G, C.
I hope this last one makes sense. Please let me know if you can’t figure it out (and really want to!). The challenge here is in playing the melody legato and the chords staccato AND switching between the hands quickly.
