Helping Students Remember Starting Positions

As a means of helping my students remember where to put their hands, for the start of each song, I play a game that works really well.
With their printed keyboards on their laps, I say a particular song and they put their hands on the keyboard in the correct position (they don’t play the song, just position themselves). Then they take their hands off the keyboard and I say another song. We do this until they know all the starting points for all the songs in a certain level. I also do this with things like the final funky chord in Alma Mater Blues (after the Blues Scale tailpiece) – see Neil in video. We keep doing it till they “get it.
