Any other fun ideas for Halloween – like the spooky blues song? Or how you might use Halloween treats as incentives this week or next?

An oldie but a goodie – having students write spooky lyrics to Chester.

Honey Dew progression is Monster Mash. Just play each measure twice. Play along with a rock beat from an app and do a sing-along.

I just did this with my class yesterday and they loved it. We used little Halloween erasers to find the chords on the keypads before working them into our hands. Super fun!

I was thinking also about a Halloween game. I have a plush pumpkin toy, and thought of wrapping up a small Halloween toy with several layers and do a version of Pass the Parcel – but Pass the Pumpkin. While one student plays the piano, the pumpkin gets passed around. When the music stops, one paper layer is removed from the wrapped toy. Each student gets a turn being the music. At the end, I’d have the same small gift for everyone.

If you look in the group files you will find my “Chester in the Hall of the Mountain King” variation that makes it resemble the goblin march from Peer Gynt. It has been tried and tested on Foundation 1 students of all ages, and if they can play Chester they can do it.
