Rhythm Terminology US & AUS

I teach in the Denver area. I have an adult student who is from Australia. We have started Reading Rhythms and when we started calling the notes by their proper names (whole, half, quarter, etc) she got totally confused. She remembers calling notes crotchets, quavers, etc. (not sure of those spellings!)
Can anyone from Australia help me to know what the different names of the notes might be, so that I can straighten this confusion out? If I know the names she remembers calling the notes, I can ease some of her frustration!
