About SCAM Emails
Nancy N., New Hampshire
I get these occasionally. The first time, I ended up calling my local police. They explained that there are versions of this scam that target all kinds of service providers. They want to lure you into sending them money, and they do it by sending you a large check (or credit card payment?) and telling you it’s to cover your fees plus the fees of the driver or Nanny, and could you please deposit it in your bank account and write a personal check for the Nanny or driver. (I’m not sure how they intend to get your check; does a sketchy stranger show up at your door? 🤨) They plan to cash your check and have your money, and of course, the check they sent you will bounce. The police said that they do this to thousands of people, hoping to hook a few. Now when I get one, I just say that I’ll call the police, and they don’t bother me anymore.
