Has anyone used Google Adwords? I remember hearing on a conference call someone talking about it–explaining it, rather–and am interested to know what kind of results have been had using it?

I have used Google Adwords just last month and this month. I continually get leads from the internet so it’s hard to know if the leads are directly from Google Adwords. I spent $50 last month and that is my budget for this month.
However, I noticed I wasn’t coming up first in my area when I did a search for piano lessons and with Google Adwords I was coming up second.

Google once sent me a coupon for $100.00 credit for Google Adwords. I tried it out and nothing happened. More than a year later they sent me another $100.00 credit saying they’d improved things, I should try again. Nothing happened. Recently, they sent me a $100.00 credit for Ad Words Express, which is tied to your Google Places listing and especially for local marketing. I’m more than halfway through using that credit, and I don’t believe it’s turned up any prospects yet.
Part of the success, possibly much of it, is how well you write your ads and what you have waiting for people when they click through. I’m entirely open to the possibility that I’m just not using Ad Words well, don’t have good web pages, etc. But so far, their credits haven’t given me reason to actually spend my own real money on the service.
