I was wondering what each of you do for referrals?
Terri P.
I give a $50.00 (US) tuition credit to the referring student on the second month after the new student starts.
Carrie L. Michigan
I give $30.00 tuition credit to the referring student.

I give $50.00 off one month of lessons for each student referred who enrolls. I just got my first two referrals from one of my students. I put the offer right in my studio policy so they know up front what it is.
I love having my students do the ‘leg work’ for me of bringing in a new student. So worth the discount!

I offer one free month of tuition per student once he’s completed a month of lessons.

These days, I give my referrals a full month’s tuition worth (value of a shared lesson). This keeps my parents motivated to keep spreading the word.
I love referrals! Here’s why: the caliber of families that refer another family is usually about the same – they are great! I keep them longer and they are committed. I don’t have to train them as much because word gets out that I run my studio a certain way. I cherish referrals.

I do the same, give a free month of tuition. My rationale is that I am not out any $$ whatsoever. The tuition I am not collecting that month from the referring family is collected from the new family that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. And 99% of the time they continue with lessons (and tuition!). I agree with Bernadette – referring families are the absolute best way to gain new students – the new students have usually seen firsthand the results from somebody they know and trust. So they come in trusting the method and you as a teacher.
