Recital Question for Fur Elise (Level 9): Would you rather have the student just play [1-2-Bridge-1] one time in the beginning, or have it repeated like what it says in the music? It’s a lot of repeats to listen to.
Stephen R., California
All the repeats is how it is originally written. So, the First A would have sections: 112121, then B, then A shortened 121, C, Then A 121.
For students that do Fur Elise C, we shorten it (for recitals) too. By the time students are at Fur Elise B the piece is so known by everyone, it’s probably fine to shorten the first A anyway.

3-chord transition and the arpeggiated F chord: How much do you slow this part down? I found some people slow this part down quite a bit. Is it for personal interpretation?
Patti P., Hawaii
Slowing this down too much drives me crazy because it completely disrupts the rhythm. I think this happens mostly because students just aren’t skilled at playing this transition. A little stretching for expression is one thing, going twice as slow (or more!) through it is just too much, for my ear. It needs to move enough to lead us to the F chord vs stalling out.
Terri P., Michigan
I would play it as written.
