Getting A New Region Started

I am one of two teachers just getting started in Canada and I would like to share with you just one of the amazing experiences that have already occurred as I have been sharing Simply Music with my fellow Canadians. As many of you have experienced and others could well imagine, it is very exciting to bring a program to an area that has never even heard of this before. Every day my husband comes home and I announce “I have another story for you!” He just laughs because the stories just keep coming and coming!!!
I started by running a series of 6 ads in our local newspaper and my phone has been ringing off the hook. I am completely in awe of the interest that has been generated. People are so fascinated by this ‘new’ method. As a result of this interest and my initial number of students enrolled, I decided to cancel my last two ads. I called the newspaper and could not contact my ad rep. Instead, a man named Steve answered the phone. Of course, when you cancel advertising they want to know why. Next thing I was launching into a full discussion with this gentleman and he will be sending his daughter for lessons as soon as she is old enough. As it turns out, he is the son of Jack Kane, a well-known Canadian Jazz great who was on Canadian television many years ago. Not only that, Steve is also the manager of advertising, and he informed me that this is a story of community interest and I should save my advertising dollars because he is going to talk to the editors of the paper and get them to write an editorial!!! There is only one problem, we need teachers to be able to help me channel this intense interest!!!
This has been such an experience!!!
