I had a newspaper interview this morning, and it went very well. I started off by showing him (the journalist) part of the testimonial video. He was particularly impressed by the eight-year-old accompanying the church choir!
Several things happened that I think were just fantastic. First of all, I succeeded in making him forget for a few minutes that he was a reporter, and he allowed himself to be personally impressed by the method and it’s results. That was my main goal today. To impress him as a person, not as a reporter. I think he will do a great article for us.
Also, my students were great! The 12- year-old said she likes it because it’s fun, and simple, and so easy to make progress. She has had nine lessons and knows 13 songs. He was impressed with that.
Her mom said that she never has had to tell her even once to go play the piano. I quickly pointed out how she used the word “play” instead of practice. The parents don’t even think of it as practice. He wrote that down.
My senior student said she likes it because she can play anywhere, and she doesn’t have to worry about taking music along with her. Also because traditional lessons were taking a long time, and being a senior, she likes that it doesn’t take a long time to learn piano this way.
He asked a wonderful question too, “Would we be in piano lessons today if the only thing available was traditional methods?”
The girl said she wouldn’t be very inclined to do so, because they don’t look like very much fun. The senior (age 67) said she was seriously thinking about quitting piano lessons totally, but she’s glad she doesn’t have to. I told him emphatically that I had decided that I was never going back to piano lessons again. So basically, none of us that were here today would be taking lessons if it weren’t for Simply Music. I’m so glad he asked that particular question!
Later in the day, after he had left, the mom from this morning stopped by with a payment for lessons. She said when people start calling after reading the article; I can give out her phone number if they want to talk to someone who is actually taking lessons. I have a recruiter on board!
