Removable Car Signs

Does anyone use signs on their car to advertise their studio? I just inquired at a sign shop and the price is quite reasonable. For removable magnetic door signs, the price was about $40 each. They can be stolen and can possibly even come off while driving at high speeds, she said. For vinyl signs that are applied right to the car and can be removed (supposedly without damage to the paint) it is actually less. I’m just wondering whether anyone has experience with car signs and what your thoughts are. I know it has to be kept very simple. Do they get results?

I have some limited experience. I recently had a 3’x5′ banner and two magnetic car signs made for the purposes of advertisement. Both turned out wonderfully! I ordered them with a local company and was charged $124 for the banner which included an extra charge for the addition of a red border (which helps the sign “jump off” the white wall and white car on which they are mounted, since the signs are mostly white). The car signs cost $60 for the pair and this was higher than the usual cost because I needed some custom sizing. The normal dimensions are 12″x18″ but mine needed to be 9″x18″.
My banner is mounted on a wall at my children’s gymnastics training center. The owners of the center are charging me $125 per year to hang it there. It’s been there a week and I’ve already had five calls!
Another form of advertising I have done recently to expand my studio numbers is to donate gift certificates to a couple of organizations for raffle prizes. I donated five separate certificates, each for one month of free lessons and materials, to a local charity’s annual crab feed. I have heard from three of the five already. I also donated the same gift certificate to a local autism support organization’s silent auction which will take place next month. We’ll see how this all works out, but I thought I would just throw some ideas out there for everyone.
