Time for More Music: August
Found in: Reading

I’m wondering how long it takes for other teachers who have taught TFMM August in a private lesson? I have been teaching this piece to a student and it seems to be taking forever. We made a commitment a few months ago that we would do a little bit every lesson. She would prefer to move on and not finish it. I’m now wondering if she is spending enough home practice on it.

In the training videos, Neil talks about breaking the piece up into three separate pieces. Work on tricky measures as exercises only. This is a reading exercise and doesn’t necessarily have to be in the playlist as a regular playlist piece unless they want it to be. It could take 3 weeks or months.

I’m just about to return to the second page after doing the remaining songs. If they pick it up fast, maybe the third page also.

I break up the song. The three pages can each easily be separate projects. After learning the first page, I move on and come back to finish it later.

Depends on the students/group. I separate them into 2-line projects. If the first 2 lines seems easy to them, they will play the whole first page. The second 1.5 page usually needs more attention so it could be longer.
