Ensemble Playing with Jazz Clue 3
Un Mani, Australia
I’ve got an online student powering through Jazz and about to start JC 3, who lives in the locked down city of Melbourne. I don’t have much experience myself with jazz ensemble playing and I want her to have fun with this. I’d like some advice regarding how she can manage it non live. Do I create a melody/bass track with the jazz pieces and she ‘drops in’ chords ? Is there something I don’t know about that’s out there in SM world? Are there any good ideas anyone has had in the past to manage this part of the curriculum? My studio is 100% online so your responses will be invaluable.

Students can play the Jazz tracks (audio download) in the background as their ensemble experience.
A good sound system, speakers or headphones will help a lot

Indeed — and for the Jazz Clues Program’s songs themselves, there’s the choice of both the A Touch of Jazz recordings that come with the program itself as well as the supplement Joe Gilman CD, which may take some adjustment but would provide an extra opportunity/challenge for playing those songs along with audio.
