Kat Marie’s Facebook Marketing Initiative
Hi all. Several of you have been asking about how to advertise online for students. I said I would share anything that I came across.
.
One of our newer Simply Music Teachers, Kat Marie, has been posting about her recent marketing initiative. So far it’s been a very successful exercise for her. I thought I would consolidate her original Facebook post to the SM Teachers, include the message that she sent out to the Facebook ‘Friend List’, as well as her response to a question, from one of our teachers, about her Online Introductory Session.

1. Hi Simply Music Teacher Community!
This page has been such a great support and so thankful for everyone posting ideas and suggestions! I am on the newer side but gaining some momentum as I have found that a lot of my friends actually want to take lessons!
I know most of the teachers here have been doing this for a long time and may already have a good student base, but for anyone wanting to grow, I want to share something that has worked for me just in the last 2 weeks.
Instead of posting about me teaching piano, I sent a PM (Facebook Private Message) to 100 people on my FB Friends list, and I got 25 replies either saying they’ll share and pass my info along, or that they or their kids want to take piano lessons!
This week I did an Online Introductory Session and I had people from all over – and not just the US – Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada and Pakistan. I was blown away by how much this online teaching is opening doors for us to reach so many others from places near and far.
I’ve got so much more to learn with this program and I’m excited to grow as a teacher. It’s very exciting to experience the potential of bringing music to people from all around the world!!!!

Hi,
During this crazy time, I know a lot of families are struggling with finances and also things to keep their kids engaged while being home 24/7. I’d like to serve using my time and skills by offering 4 FREE Online Piano lessons! Music has a way of elevating our mind and spirit, and there’s a big difference in the joy it gives us when we actually get to PLAY music vs. just listening to it.
I teach a method called Simply Music which has revolutionized the way I view music and how to teach it. You can check it out by going to SimplyMusic.com.
l teach from ages 7 years old to adults and all levels. I’d love your help in sharing this with anyone you know who may find value in this by forwarding this message.
Anyone who’s interested can contact me directly at: kat.dingcong@gmail.com
Thank you for your time and hope you are well!
Best,
Kat Marie

3. Here’s the question Gabrielle Krieger Ballard asked:
.
Hi Kat! How did you market your Online FIS? How strong were the leads you got from that? I love hearing about your experience.

4. Here’s Kat’s reply:
.
Hi Gabrielle!
.
I started by looking at my ‘Friend’s List’ on FB.
.
I then messaged my friends who I know either have kids, or have a connection to a school group/church group so they can forward the info along.
.
Then, once those people contacted me saying they’re interested, I sent them my calendar (using a Calendly link) so they could schedule their first Intro Session. I limited the Intro Session to 5 families per session because I wasn’t sure how many I could handle (as I’m still new).
.
During the session itself, I had them all introduce themselves and tell the group why they wanted to learn or why they wanted their kids to learn piano.
.
Then I started with the whole presentation, using fun, dynamic slides which I share with them (using the Share Screen option on Zoom).
.
I also demonstrated the songs for them (just like how Neil does in the ITTP videos).
.
I the did the whole Ode to Joy presentation to demonstrate how simple this program is.
.
I also asked them to take notes, and I told them in the beginning that I would be asking questions at the end and that I would be giving away prizes.
.
At the end, when I asked questions, and someone was able to give me complete answers, I rewarded them with one, Free 30 min. lesson.
.
So far I’ve had 3 intro sessions, a total of 12 attendees and 7 have signed up!

I spoke to Kat yesterday and she said that as of yesterday she now has had 16 people register for her Workshop! Pretty cool!!
.
Take care everyone.

I can see the app Calendly is crucial to this wonderful marketing idea. Do you use the free version? Do you have any advice for it’s use?
Neil Moore
I use the paid subscription version as it serves for additional team members. I would imagine that the free version would support basic needs. It’s a very good app, very easy to use, and very reliable

I use the paid version as well. I use the middle paid version. there’s the 8/month version or 12/month version which is good if you have other people working with you. but since it’s only me, I didn’t need that. But I may move over to my music staff only because calendly doesn’t have a recurring payment feature.
