In Accompaniment 1, what is the LH fingering or placement for Scarborough Fair in A minor?]
John N., Missouri
I have students put LH finger 3 on A – that keeps all the bass notes in the 5-finger position, with the thumb playing both C and reaching over to D. Keeps things nice and centered.
Mark M., New York
I have students place LH finger 4 on A — 5-finger position with no finger having to move at all.
Laurie Richards
It’s also a good exercise to allow the student to figure out what would make sense. Sometimes I have them play through an entire song LH notes only – helps them figure it out.
Stephen R., California
I also let more advanced students know that the LH could be octaves on any of these accompaniments. It adds an extra layer of challenge for those that are ready. Try that with Star-spangled Banner or Honey Dew.
