Jackson Arrangement 3 Fingering

In teaching Humpty’s Twins (Jackson Blues arrangement 3), I generally teach RH3 for the middle note of all the chords. I had a student today ask why not RH4 for the middle note of the top chord. Thoughts?

I teach the same way, and just in the last couple of weeks I had a student ask the exact same question. I was reluctant to allow it, because I do think in the end that 135 is best, but I can see the case for 4 on the top chord depending on students’ hand size, flexibility, etc. I said it was okay with me, choose either way, as long you choose soon and keep it consistent.

I honestly prefer 124 fingering throughout! It works great for me or those with big hands, maybe not smaller hands. I suggest one way or the other to students, 135 or 124.

I think fingering is all about finding the balance between comfort and consistency for students so that fingering is fine as long as I see them doing it consistently and successfully. That said I myself prefer 124 on the first two chords and 135 on the last.
