License Agreement question regarding photos
Found in: Claiming Territory, Foundation Songs

I know that it is against our license agreement to have video of us teaching. A parent asked me yesterday to take a photo of my hand on the D minor chord in Honey Dew, and I told her it’s against my license agreement. I also told her they can call or text me, or ask again in the lesson, and I encouraged her that they can remember that chord. This was the week after the lesson in which I taught Honey Dew.
But I wonder if a photo of my hand making a chord is against the licensing?

No, it’s just a generic chord; however, I just call it a D minor and show them that it’s just all white like the C but next door.

It’s not necessarily against your license, but I would say it is a claiming territory issue and is completely unnecessary! It’s not a stretch at all to remember that the thumb goes on the bottom note of the chord name, and then you play 1, 3, and 5. Same as the other chords already learned.
The parent will need to understand that you will not be giving a complete ‘road map’ (like written music does) to the songs – that is the nature of a playing-based approach. She will really need to get on board for Arrangements with no support material. I think a simple discussion about what to expect is all that you need to do.

It’s the same shape and all whites for Honey Dew. I agree with Laurie! We are learning to exercise our memory muscles and using all the tools at our disposal, like watching the video as often as needed!

It’s just a transference of knowledge from the Am chord that Neil demonstrates. No need for extra support.

This is the very first time they’ve done anything that wasn’t on the video. The Dm chord used to be in a variation on Honey Dew, apparently. I did let them know last week to expect that chord not to be on the video. “We just couldn’t remember it”, they say. But I think they actually were playing it correctly.

When a student or Mom feels uncomfortable remembering, try pushing the pause button and teach it again, asking the person to do it with you (i.e., find the base note D, place your bottom finger on it, put the other fingers on all white notes just like the 5 steps of sound, ask them to try it by themselves a second time). I find this process lessens their anxiety.

Laurie, where is there more training on having this discussion about what to expect, and that not everything is in the support materials?
Laurie Richards, Nebraska
I was referring mainly to the Reference diagrams – that not all components of a song are represented (e.g. no LH clues for Dreams). They have support material for that; but they are ‘LAWOL’ (learning a way of learning) by not having everything in front of them.
In the Arrangements programs, there are NO support materials. Neil discusses this in Arrangements 1 TTMs ‘About Arrangements’ audio track. There is a plethora of discussion about this topic in Simpedia as well.
