Teaching Capitals & Periods Early

Successful new idea I hit upon with a new group. These are kids on the young side, 6-7. I ended up teaching them just the Capitals & Periods from the Pause Button (Tune Toolkit Project 2) prior to teaching them the rest of that project, and prior to completing Dreams.
I didn’t even have them review any SHM. I just said pick a finger in each hand in your mind, and then play them together. And do that over and over with different combinations. Just getting them used to the very basic Single Thought Process of playing individual fingers BH together. I didn’t even call it Capitals & Periods, because that only makes sense after introducing the RH concept of Sentences.
They did really great when I then taught them the rest of the Pause Button project, including coordinating BH very easily. I think, having improvised with random selection of BH notes together, it will help make BH coordination for finishing Dreams that much easier. A good option for young students or possibly for anyone, and underscores the value of doing Comp & Improv right from the beginning.
